Historic Homes Tours • Description

Butte CPR sponsors educational events, highlighting the importance, preservation, and maintenance of Butte's historic architecture. Past activities have included Landlord Workshops, popular Home Tours of historic residences as well as guided walking tours of the Uptown Business District. A Historic Windows Workshop in 2005 brought National Park Service experts to Butte (photo, right). Stained Glass Tours, Dust to Dazzle, and Brick Workshops are annual events (see above for descriptions). CPR also gives awards to owners of residential and commercial buildings, increasing public awareness of outstanding renovation efforts. CPR's workshops in 2008-09 are supported in part by a Preserve America sub-grant from the Montana State Historic Preservation Office.

Some of these activities are free, intended primarily as educational experiences. When admission is charged, it provides a significant source of funds, returned to the community through CPR's Historic Improvement Project Grants.

Speaker's Bureau

As part of its education programs, Butte CPR offers presentations to community groups on various topics. We've given the presentation based on our stained glass booklet in Helena, Missoula, and multiple places in Butte. Other historic topics are possible, including presentations on Butte's Chinese, Labor History and Frank Little, and more.

These presentations are offered at no charge to Butte area community groups and our Corporate Members — donations to CPR are much appreciated. Contact us for low rates for visiting tour groups and out-of-town presentations. Email Dick Gibson or call him at 406-723-9639 for more information on our lectures and presentations.

In 2008, CPR volunteers gave monthly educational visits on a wide range of topics to Butte's Beyond Assisted Living homes.
