STAINED GLASS & LITERARY-ART TOUR 2008

This year's tour followed Mitzi Rossillon's suggestion of a trolley ride focusing on Butte history through literature and painting.

A total of 48 passengers and 5 guides learned about Mary MacLane, Elizabeth Lochrie, Myron Brinig, and Ed Dobb and the homes that they lived or live in. The tour included inside visits to the 1906 frescoes in Walkerville's St. Lawrence O'Toole Church and the spectacular and unusual windows in Immaculate Conception Church.

Because of limited seating on the trolley, we had to turn a few people away. We're sorry about that but glad the topics were so popular, and we'll explore the possibility of offering the tour or some version of it again.

The low cost ($5) was thanks to a special arrangement with the Chamber of Commerce for the Trolley, brokered by driver and guide Denny Dutton. In addition to Denny, guide services were provided by volunteers Nicole von Gaza, Irene Scheidecker, Julie Crowley, Dick Gibson, Mitzi Rossillon, and Cindi Shaw.

Below: Irene Scheidecker explains features of the interior of St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church in Walkerville, dating to 1897.
